Our Mission: Support anything/anyone who has goals and direction (in a publicity sense, of course).

Team HK got the opportunity to attend the Scala Mercalli/Scala Mercalli Scala Mercalli Scala Mercalli Sylpheed/Tarja concert at Boogaloo club in Zagreb, Croatia. These are our thoughts of the show:

Unfortunately we missed the first opening band, due to long lines at the ticket window of the venue; but we got inside while Sylpheed was on stage. The band was very lively on stage, and also very interactive with their audience. We appreciate that, along with the fact that Sylpheed openly mingled with the crowd afterward. Their performance went well, even though they had a few issues. The lighting did not go along with the music, and too much red was used. Also, the sound tech made the mistake of keeping the volume of all except the vocalist’s microphone quite loud for the size of the venue. There was so much reverberation that it was difficult to hear the vocalist’s voice. Aside from these commonly made mistakes, the show was extremely entertaining and fun. The crowd received the band very well, and even attempted on several occasions to sing along. Many also had their hands in the air, and were clapping along with the beat. We also got a chance to talk to the band after their performance; they are quite polite and were very happy to speak with us. They told us they are “extremely excited for the opportunity” they have been given, and they appreciate the crowd and the attitudes of everyone they have met during this tour. They also expressed the fact that they would love to go on to another tour soon. Sylpheed also told us they will be talking to the technicians to hopefully correct the issues that occurred during the show. We are very happy to have met, and talked to most them; and we thank them for a great show.

Tarja’s performance was, as expected, absolutely amazing. She was very energetic during the show, and interacted with the audience the entire time. She and her band were constantly smiling, and truly enjoying performing. It was an amazing feeling to be at their show, and we are very impressed with their ability to create a certain mood; not only on the stage, but throughout the entire venue. We also appreciate the fact that they sincerely thanked the audience many times, and even spoke to us in Croatian. This to us is very impressive, as not many artists take the time to learn the language of each place they visit. Also, we are impressed at the band energy levels; the whole show they were jumping and dancing around on the stage, this is very difficult to do while performing their songs. The stage set up, and outfits were very clearly carefully planned, and went well with the music. The lighting was also very carefully planned and timed to go along with the beat, and mood of the songs. This is amazing considering the fact that the entire set, and stage set up is changed for each show. We were also impressed by the fact that Tarja, herself, could have performed the entire show without a microphone; she has a huge and beautiful voice that very obviously is important to her. We also loved the curtain she used during the beginning of the show, and the backdrops during the remainder. She also took the time to shake the hands of as many people in the audience as she could reach. We believe that Tarja and her band truly appreciate their fans, and would if they could, meet and talk to each and every one. Unfortunately due to time restrictions, we were not able to speak with Tarja; but we will definitely be attending the next time they are in the area.
